(Littleton, MA - September 15, 1999) – The Taiwanese Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) charged with enforcing Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) regulations has validated Curtis-Straus for testing to Taiwanese standard CNS 13438. CNS 13438 is identical to CISPR 22, the radio frequency emissions standard for Information Technology Equipment (ITE). Curtis-Straus can now perform tests at our facility in the United States and write reports which document compliance with the electromagnetic compatibility regulations of Taiwan.

As part of the validation process Curtis-Straus was subject to an ISO Guide 25 audit by NVLAP and was nominated by NIST under the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Mutual Recognition Agreement (APEC MRA). Curtis-Straus is now formally designated to act as a Conformity Assessment Body (CAB) under Annex B, Phase I Procedures, of the APEC MRA between the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representation Office (TECRO in the United States, covering equipment subject to Electro-Magnetic Compatibility requirements. Curtis-Straus has previously passed similar evaluations conducted by US government agencies such as the National Institute of Standards and Technologies (NIST) under it’s NVLAP program and the Federal Communications Commission. Internationally, Industry Canada, Australia’s NATA, New Zealand’s Ministry, South Africa’s SABS and Japan’s VCCI have all agreed to accept Curtis-Straus.
